Scene: With Katerina

Context: Rudolf has come home and is out with Katerina, but she is concerned because he is not himself. She tries to get it out of him.

Context: His family knows of the promotion and wonders what he'll do. They ask him and offer him advice based on their character.

Scene: Soldiers in France

Context: In order to make the right decision, Rudolf has decided to talk to the people who have been his brothers through the war - his fellow officers and soldiers under his command.

Possible Characters:

Higher ranking officers - to seek their opinion
Soldiers:

• those who see it as an opportunity
• those who see it as an escape from the upcoming "storm"
• those who would be bitter towards him for abandoning his men

Scene: Friends at Home

Context: To use his time wisely, Rudolf spends some of his leave with the people he grew up with. They know of his promotion, and offer their advice.

Possible Characters:
friends from school * idealistic or pessimistic about the war
neighbors
friends who are soldiers - also on leave or wounded in combat and sent home

Scene: People on the Street

Context: Rudolf is lost. In order to clear his mind he walks the streets of Dresden during the day. Buildings are smashed because of Allied bombing. Soldiers are everywhere.
